Our 2010 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of 80% Clone 1 Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Musqué Clone Sauvignon Blanc, all from Lake County Vineyards. Walking the vineyards and sampling fruit prior to the 2010 harvest we were amazed at both the intensity and complexity of the flavors we encountered. Often, one quality will eclipse the other, but in 2010, things developed ideally. True to their nature, the Musqué clone was developing brilliant aromatics of lemongrass and honeysuckle, while the Clone 1 was already showcasing flavors of cut grass, white peach and granite.
We harvested prior to the October heat spikes that sent flavors and alcohols out of balance for so many others in 2010. The result is an elegant classic Graves-style Sauvignon Blanc. A slow and cold stainless steel fermentation maintained the aromas and flavors, ensuring we would preserve the wine’s qualities from vineyard to bottle.
The light straw color is reminiscent of classic left-bank Bordeaux Blanc, while the flavors are a perfect blend of old-world complexity and crisp North Coast fruit. The nose avoids verging into either the tutti-frutti or overly grassy realms. Bright flavors of apple skin and pear balance undertones of cherimoya, fig and melon.
